Running Pace Calculator
Turn a distance and finish time into pace per mile and per kilometer, average speed, and even splits — with presets for 5K, 10K, half, and full marathons. Training estimates only — not medical advice.
| Point | Elapsed time |
|---|---|
| Mile 1 | 9:12 |
| Mile 2 | 18:23 |
| Mile 3 | 27:35 |
| Finish | 28:30 |
How to use this tool
- Pick a race preset (5K, 10K, half, marathon) or enter any distance.
- Enter your finish time (or goal time).
- Read your pace per mile and per kilometer, average speed, and the split table.
How it works
Pace = total time ÷ distance. The tool converts between miles and kilometers exactly (1 mi = 1.609344 km) and derives speed as distance ÷ time. Splits assume perfectly even pacing — real races usually run slightly uneven, and many runners aim for a gentle negative split (second half faster).
These are training estimates only, not medical advice. If you're new to running or have a heart or health condition, talk to a healthcare professional before starting a training plan.

Frequently asked questions
What pace do I need for a 4-hour marathon?
About 9:09 per mile (5:41 per km). Pick the Marathon preset and enter 4:00:00 to see the full split table.
What's a good 5K pace for a beginner?
Highly individual, but 30–40 minutes (9:39–12:52 per mile) is a common beginner range. The best benchmark is your own previous time.
How do I convert pace per mile to pace per km?
Divide by 1.609344. An 8:00/mile pace is about 4:58/km — the tool always shows both.
