How to use this tool
- For volume-to-volume conversions (cups to milliliters, tablespoons to teaspoons), use the first tab.
- For cups-to-grams, switch to the ingredient tab and pick your ingredient — weight depends on what you're measuring.
- Enter your amount and read the result instantly.
How it works
Volume conversions use exact US customary definitions (1 cup = 236.588 ml, 1 tablespoon = 3 teaspoons). Cup-to-gram conversions multiply by a standard grams-per-cup density for each ingredient, taken from common baking references — 1 cup of all-purpose flour weighs about 120 g while 1 cup of honey weighs about 340 g, which is why a single cups-to-grams factor can't work.
Note this tool uses US cups (236.6 ml). Metric cups used in Australia and New Zealand are 250 ml — about 6% larger — and UK recipes often use weights instead.

Frequently asked questions
How many grams is 1 cup of flour?
About 120 g for spooned-and-leveled all-purpose flour. If you scoop the cup directly into the flour bag it compacts and can weigh 140 g or more — one reason bakers prefer scales.
Why do cups-to-grams conversions depend on the ingredient?
A cup measures volume, a gram measures weight, and ingredients have different densities. A cup of powdered sugar (about 120 g) weighs far less than a cup of honey (about 340 g).
Is a US cup the same as a metric cup?
No. A US cup is 236.6 ml; the metric cup used in Australian recipes is 250 ml. For most recipes the ~6% difference is tolerable, but for baking it can matter.
